MGA Hall of Fame 2023
Steve Wilson was born in San Bernardino, CA on February 18, 1970. After a move to Mississippi, Wilson attended St. Martin High School in Ocean Springs, MS. Following high school Steve signed to play golf at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College under Coach Charles Cooper. In 1990, a year after signing, the Bulldogs won the Mississippi Association of Junior and Community Colleges/NJCAA Region 23 Championship and played in the NJCAA Championship. This marked the first time the MGCC team had qualified for Nationals and the team took home a 5th place finish. Steve earned NJCAA All-American Second Team honors at the National Championship and from that point his confidence on the golf course continued to grow. Following his time at Mississippi Gulf Coast, Wilson signed to play golf at the University of Southern Mississippi and in 1993 decided to turn his sights on Professional Golf. Over the next 12 years as a Professional golfer, Steve won more than a dozen mini tour events across the United States. In 2005, Steve rejoined the amateur golf world and since that time has added over 15 local, regional, and national championship victories to his resume. These victories include two (2) Mississippi State Amateur Championships, two (2) Mississippi Four-Ball Championships, one (1) Mississippi MidAmateur Championship, four (4) Coast Amateur titles, and eight (8) Coast Open titles. At the top of his resume sits the 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship title which he captured at Milwaukee Country Club at the age of 38. The first Mississippian to ever win this National Championship, Steve won six matches in five days, after qualifying in the top sixty-four players to advance to match play. By winning the U.S. Mid-Amateur, Steve qualified for several Tour Events including The Viking Classic and an invitation to compete in the 2009 Masters in Augusta, GA. Steve currently resides in Ocean Springs, is a member of Windance Country Club and is the owner of Fayard’s Gas Stations.
