Points Distrubtion Details

Women's MGA Points System

MGA State Championships:

All MGA State Championships will receive full points, regardless of field size.

Player of the Year

The Mississippi Golf Association has established a points series which awards Player of the Year honors for the best female players in the state. These awards are presented annually to the players that collect the highest point total. We award player of the year awards in the following categories:

Women’s Player of the Year

Women’s Senior Player of the Year

Women’s Super-Senior Player of the Year

Super Senior Division Points

Players who are 60 and over will receive super senior division points. Super Senior Points will be awarded in tournaments with a specific super senior division, which plays a specific super senior tee. We will also award points to players over the age of 60 in tournaments without a specific super senior division that are playing in the Championship Division. The points will be based on how you finish among all of the super seniors in the field. Players who are from out of state, will be counted in the points distribution, but they will not earn MGA points. Professional golfers, who are over the age of 60 will not be counted in the points distribution.

Senior Division Points

Players who are 50 and over will receive senior division points. Senior Points will be awarded in tournaments with a specific senior division, which plays a specific senior tee. We will also award points to players over the age of 50 in tournaments without a specific senior division that are playing in the Championship Divsion. The points will be based on how you finish among all of the seniors in the field. Players who are from out of state, will be counted in the points distribution, but they will not earn MGA points. Professional golfers, who are over the age of 50 will not be counted in the points distribution.

Points Eligibility

Players must be bona fide residents of the state of Mississippi and MGA members to be eligible to earn MGA Points. See Tournament Policies for which MGA Tournaments require residency.

Sanctioned Tournament Minimum Numbers

There will no longer be a minimum number of players required to be sanctioned. All sanctioned tournaments approved by the board will be sanctioned for points. Full points for the sanctioned tournament will be awarded if the specific division has a minimum of the following:

Women’s Regular: 12 players

Women’s Senior: 8 players

Women’s Super-Senior: 4 players

The minimum number to receive full points is based on the number who began playing the tournament in the specific division. If a lower number is in a specific division, the points awarded will be prorated based on the field size in the specific division. Player of the Year Points will only be awarded to players playing in the Championship Division of the tournament.

Sanctioned Tournaments with out of state players

Players who are from out of state, will be counted in the points distribution, but they will not earn MGA points. (i.e. A player from Arkansas finishes first and second in the Ladies Magnolia Invitational, a Mississippi player finishes third. The MS player will earn 3rd place points. If a Louisiana player and Mississippi Player tie for fourth place, they will split 4th and fifth place points. The MS player will earn 1/2 of 4th and 5th combined points, the LA player will not earn points). This is also how the MGA player of the year points have been distributed for over 20 years.

The points cut off for the season is October 31 of the current year. The tournament must start on or before October 31 to be counted in the current year.
